Launching a wild retreat on the Cornish coast

Koto, in collaboration with The Point at Polzeath, is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of a truly extraordinary project - a design-led eco-cabin retreat nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Cornwall. This innovative partnership combines Koto's cutting-edge design expertise, Darren Hawkes' award-winning landscaping mastery, and the idyllic setting of The Point, resulting in a pioneering extension to the existing holiday facilities located in the picturesque Polzeath hills.

Set to debut in autumn 2023, the highly anticipated launch will feature 17 exquisite Koto cabins exclusively designed for The Point and are now available for purchase. Ranging from 115 to 119 square meters (GEFA), these beautifully crafted luxury cabins are available in two distinct three-bedroom design variations.

Each cabin will be delivered and installed, providing a seamless and hassle-free experience for homeowners, complete with a thoughtfully curated furniture package by sister company, Koto Living.

Koto's cabins are meticulously designed to seamlessly blend with the surrounding long grasses and wildflowers, perfectly harmonising with the verdant landscape. Built primarily with timber and glass, every Koto cabin boasts a private courtyard space, encouraging guests to step outside and immerse themselves in the awe-inspiring views while providing a cozy haven from the elements of the Cornish coast.

Renowned for his 20 years of experience in the landscaping industry and multiple gold medals at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Darren Hawkes, in collaboration with Darren Hawkes Landscapes, lends his expertise to create the stunning landscape.  The result is a harmonious integration of Koto's visionary cabin design and Hawkes' landscaping artistry, including 400 meters of Cornish stone walling, promising an enchanting escape for families seeking a closer connection with the wild nature and invigorating sea air of Cornwall. Situated just a stone's throw away from some of the UK's finest beaches, The Point offers an unparalleled retreat for surfers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Cabin owners will have the opportunity to enjoy The Point's exceptional leisure facilities, including a golf course, paddle courts, gym, indoor swimming pool, bar, restaurant, and tennis facilities, ensuring an unforgettable experience for everyone.

At the core of this remarkable holiday home community development lies a deep commitment to sustainability. The design philosophy revolves around creating a harmonious coexistence between the cabins and the natural environment, promoting biophilic living and fostering a profound connection between people and the world around them. To realize this vision, extensive rewilding efforts are underway, transforming The Point into a sanctuary of natural escapes. Vast wildlife corridors and wildflower margins pave the way for guests to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature. The rewilding initiative also extends to The Point's golf course, where bug hotels and fescue grasses are being introduced, ensuring a thriving ecosystem. Exuding an elegant and understated charm, the Koto cabins feature black charred timber cladding that seamlessly merges with the Cornish landscape. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing and large glazed doors dissolve the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, providing an uninterrupted connection with the surrounding beauty.

Within the cabins' minimalist interiors, a soft and muted palette enhances the picturesque landscape and coastline, allowing nature to take center stage. The open-plan living space offers a seamless flow, while the bedrooms and bathrooms are thoughtfully designed to provide a secluded retreat within the cabin.

The Koto Living interiors design team will collaborate closely with homeowners to select interiors and furniture that align with their vision, ensuring each coastal cabin becomes a personalised dream getaway, ready for immediate enjoyment.

About Koto.

Modular Architecture - Sustainable by necessity.

Koto delivers beautifully crafted, architect designed, energy neutral homes and cabins. All our buildings are produced to the very highest standards and delivered whole and complete directly to your site. Every Koto home has been crafted with the utmost respect for both our environment and the people we work with. The Koto studio co-founded by Zoe, Johnathon and Theo design modular houses, cabins and sculptural small buildings, with each one drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design and culture. Co-founders, Johnathon and Zoë Little, returned from living on the shores of Norway’s fjords with a deep appreciation of the local aesthetic and environment. As the brand progressed, Koto began looking further east to the minimalist world of Japanese design and their focus on social functionality. This is something that has always fascinated co-founder and architect Theo Dales. Koto shares their emphasis on clean and simple details that provide a sense of calm. This exploration has helped Koto’s designs evolve into the carefully-considered works they are today.

“As both designers and parents, we recognise the dynamic relationship between nature, quality design and one of life’s great luxuries – spending time with friends and family. Each and every Koto home embodies this ethos.”
