koto at North Uist

Set on the remote Hebridean isle of North Uist, Uist House is a four-bedroom modular home designed in quiet harmony with its dramatic surroundings. Delivered over land and sea in seven modules, the home won the 2024 Wood Awards for its innovation in timber architecture.

Expansive glazing frames sweeping views from both living spaces and bedrooms, allowing light and landscape to shape the experience of the house. Natural materials and textures root the building in its rugged setting, while refined details introduce warmth and a sense of quiet luxury.

Visually, Burnt larch cladding, large glazing, timber floors, and natural stone feature throughout, whilst organic fabrics provide tactile textures. Central to the choice of materiality used to craft the design was the aim to merge Koto House with its natural environment.

The handcrafted kitchen, with its dark natural fittings, offers a striking centrepiece crafted with precision and care. Artisan bathroom suites, featuring countertop basins and freestanding tubs, provide moments of quiet luxury where residents can recharge while immersed in the island’s breathtaking panoramas.
