Summer’s Arrival

“Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink in the wild air.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Summer is finally here! The sun is shining and the temperatures are rising. This is the time of year when many people take a step back from their busy lives and enjoy some time revitalising in nature.

Finding peace and connection in nature.

One of the best ways to slow down and embrace the summer is to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There is something special about breathing in the fresh air, dipping into the sea’s salty water, and feeling the sun on your skin. If you can, plan a trip to the beach, escape to a cabin in the woods or spend a week camping under the stars. Disconnecting from technology will allow you to truly relax and savour every moment. In our fast-paced world, it is important to take a step back and appreciate the beauty of nature in order to reconnect with the natural world.

Connecting with nature has been shown to have numerous benefits for both our physical and mental health. Just as we need food and water to survive, we also need nature. Nature provides us with essential resources like air, water, and food. It also helps us stay healthy by giving us a place to exercise and relax. But nature does more than just keep us alive—it also makes us happier and more fulfilled. Studies have shown that time spent in nature can reduce stress, improve moods, and increase feelings of happiness and life satisfaction.

Rest and recharge at a sustainable retreat.

If you're looking for a fun way to spend your summer break, a cabin retreat is a perfect way to indulge in the long days and glorious weather. Cabin retreats are also a great opportunity to bond with family and friends. Spending time in close quarters with people you care about helps to create some truly special memories.

Luxury eco-retreat holidays are becoming increasingly popular as people are becoming more conscious of the impact their vacations have on the environment. Whether you're looking for a place to rejuvenate, or you want to learn more about sustainable living, an eco-retreat is the perfect getaway.

Fritton Lake.

Fritton Lake is a private eco-retreat that offers a magical lakeside setting on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Design-led sustainable cabins created by Koto, outdoor sport & recreation amongst wildlife, and locally-sourced delicious food form part of a pioneering eco-restoration project to help improve biodiversity on the estate.

Our sensitively designed Ki cabin and spacious Miru cabin are both available to purchase at Fritton Lake. Alternatively, you can book a stay in the cabins for several nights to enjoy all that Fritton Lake has to offer.

Trees at Tughall.

Travelling further north up the UK to the Northumbrian coast, you will find the Trees at Tughall retreat; a series of three exclusive Koto cabins set in ancient woodland.

  • ASH – Situated amongst ancient ash trees, Ash is bathed in the scattered light as the suns’ rays filter through the canopy.

  • HAWTHORN – Interposed between the banks of the Tughall Burn and flanked by Ash, Horse Chestnut, and Hawthorn. The highest peak in the Cheviots is in sight from the Hawthorn cabin. On a clear day, the sunsets are spectacular.

  • WILLOW – Opening out to a shaded stream-side glade covered by gently rustling willow, this cabin offers panoramic rural views across the fields. Predominantly south facing, the flooding light from the Willow cabin is consistently excellent whilst being shaded away from the wind.

Head to the Trees at Tughall web page to book your stay.

About Koto.

Modular Architecture - Sustainable by necessity.

Koto delivers beautifully crafted, architect designed, energy neutral homes and cabins. All our buildings are produced to the very highest standards and delivered whole and complete directly to your site. Every Koto home has been crafted with the utmost respect for both our environment and the people we work with. The Koto studio co-founded by Zoe, Johnathon and Theo design modular houses, cabins and sculptural small buildings, with each one drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design and culture. Co-founders, Johnathon and Zoë Little, returned from living on the shores of Norway’s fjords with a deep appreciation of the local aesthetic and environment. As the brand progressed, Koto began looking further east to the minimalist world of Japanese design and their focus on social functionality. This is something that has always fascinated co-founder and architect Theo Dales. Koto shares their emphasis on clean and simple details that provide a sense of calm. This exploration has helped Koto’s designs evolve into the carefully-considered works they are today.

“As both designers and parents, we recognise the dynamic relationship between nature, quality design and one of life’s great luxuries – spending time with friends and family. Each and every Koto home embodies this ethos.”
Zoe Little - Co-Founder Koto.
